Syringaldehyde is a novel smoke-derived germination cue for the native fire-chasing tobacco, Nicotiana attenuata

چکیده
Abstract Smoke-derived seed germination is an important trait for plants to colonize postfire habitats. The well-characterized smoke-derived chemicals of karrikins germinate seeds species not known occur after fires in nature. Hence, the ecologically relevant cues smoke remain be explored native plants. With fire-chaser, Nicotiana attenuata , we revisit a bioassay-driven fractionation liquid identify cues. By combining bioassay-guided and comparative unbiased metabolomics, developed robust efficient method smoke. Syringaldehyde (SAL) was re-identified as cue fractions that promote germination. SAL found produced during wildfires plant's habitat, efficiently adsorbed N. from aqueous solutions readily leached soil accurately predicted boundaries natural fire events reflect occurrence populations. We propose this species.

Plant-derived smoke has been known to play an important role in distribution and growth of vegetation. Using a proficiently designed furnace, we extracted smoke from the leaves of four plant viz. Helianthus annuus,Aloe vera,Ginkgo biloba, and Cymbopogon jwarancusa. Smoke dilutions obtained from these plants were obtained in different concentrations to identify potential lettuce growth promoting...

The ankle-brachial index (ABI), a ratio of systolic blood pressure measured at the ankle and the brachial artery, is a simple noninvasive screening test used to diagnose peripheral arterial disease (PAD). PAD affects over 12 million people in the United States and its prevalence increases with increasing age (1,2). Patients with an abnormal ABI, defined as 0.90 or 1.40, are at increased risk of...

Fire products (smoke, ash and heat) have widely been recognized as a germination cue for some species from both fire prone and fire-free ecosystems. It is an important factor for the understanding of vegetation dynamics and could have potential use for ecological management and rehabilitation of disturbed area. This study attempts to understand the effect of the main fire products (smoke, ash a...

As we read through the medical literature, we are always looking for the “hottest” new advances (jumping right into the smoke/fire analogy thing): basic science that gives us new mechanistic insights, clinical trials that confirm or reject our so-called insights, major new diagnostic and therapeutic options, and breakthrough technology. We are a lot like forest rangers, sitting up on a platform...
متن کاملAn Automatic Detection of the Fire Smoke Through Multispectral Images
One of the consequences of a fire is smoke. Occasionally, monitoring and detection of this smoke can be a solution to prevent occurrence or spreading a fire. On the other hand, due to the destructive effects of the smoke spreading on human health, measures can be taken to improve the level of health services by zoning and monitoring its expansion process. In this paper, an automated method is p...
